Free Velvia 50 LUT for Premiere Pro (Rec.709 and HLG)
This is a free Velvia 50 LUT for Premiere Pro, in Rec.709 and Rec.2100 HLG. I built it for my own drone and camera footage, and it works with any camera.
What the Velvia 50 film look does
Velvia is that punchy slide film look. This one has strong contrast with crushed blacks, heavy saturation, punchy reds, lush greens and deep cyan-blue skies. Orange is held back a little so skin stays natural, and there's a touch of magenta in the hazy midtones like you see in the slide film scans. Highlights roll off clean instead of clipping hard.
Velvia 50 LUT before and after
Same frame twice. In each pair the top image is the Rec.709 conversion only, and the bottom has the Velvia 50 look applied. First, aerial footage of daylily rows.
And a wider shot over Crested Butte, Colorado. Notice the deeper blue sky and richer greens, and the slight magenta tint the look puts in the clouds, which is part of the slide film character.
How to use a Velvia LUT in Premiere Pro
Convert your footage to Rec.2100 HLG or Rec.709 first, with Premiere color management or a conversion LUT. The look doesn't care which camera it came from.
Put the look on an adjustment layer above your clips.
Pull the opacity back if it's too much. It's a strong look.
Rec.709 and HLG versions
It's one look in two versions. The Rec.709 LUT is for a standard SDR sequence, and the Rec.2100 HLG version is for an HLG timeline. Either way it's a look, so convert your footage to the matching space first.
Download the free LUT
Enter your email and I'll send you the LUT in both versions. The download links work for 48 hours, and you can request new ones any time.
